Hotel Rufolo is an ancient house overlooking the famous Villa Rufolo gardens.
The style and colour of its architecture has been well preserved during renovation and blend perfectly with the landscape and the world famous panoramic views. All this engenders feelings of relaxation and wellbeing, which will ensure a happy stay.
The hotel, situated in the historic centre of Ravello, has welcomed its guests with the warmth and the friendliness, which typifies the spirit of Ravello ( for which Ravello has been known for) for more than a century .The gates of the Hotel open into a courtyard, which provides parking space under a shady pergola.
The entrance of the hotel leads to the reception, large lounge and the bar area with marble flooring, comfortable sofas,enhanced by antique Neapolitan style furniture ,this opens onto a beautiful terrace from where a few steps descend to a large swimming pool, (usually open from May to October) a lemon grove and lawn terrace.
On the second floor there is a SPA with a spacious terrace furnished with wrought iron tables and chairs. A few steps take you to a gym. The restaurant is located between the second and third floor with the most spectacular view of the sea and Amalfi Coast.
The hotel offers all modern comforts and services.
The rooms and terraces look onto the towers and pines of Villa Rufolo and you can see the whole Amalfi coast as far as Punta Licosa
The dining room "Sigilgaida", with its superb views, the swimming pool, the gardens, the large comfortable lounge and the beauty centre, all combine to make your visit an unforgettable experience.
History The birth and the development of Hotel Rufolo are due to the enterprise of the Schiavo family.
From the second half of the XIX c. the Schiavo brothers managed one of the first hotels in Ravello
and at the beginning of the XX c. Ferdinando, grandfather of the current owners, moved to the Via S.Francesco extending the business and at the same time his family, however he continued with the coffee restaurant in the main square.
With the help of his son Alfredo, tenacious and creative, they started the development of the hotel with the first extension in the 1920s .After the war other works followed and in 1990s a total restoration programme was carried out.
Many famous guests stayed here :D:H.Lawrence stayed for long time in1926 and 1927 and started his masterpiece “Lady Chatterley’s lover”.
In the following years guests at the Hotel included president Einaudi, Togliatti,Almirante,Douglas Hurt and artists such as Rostropovich,Bruno Walter, Carla Fracci and Alida Valli, Charles Bronson and writer Domenico Rea, the French writer Lucette Desvignes who stayed several times and wrote in the hotel visitors book:
"From the medieval towers to the infinity of the sea, all belongs to you: mountains, coast, lemon valley or vineyard , magic garden, Moorish cloister, Byzantine cupolas, pine trees, all is yours and you take it with you when you leave".
